watching this fascinating documentary on pianist philip glass directed by adelaide-hero scott hicks make me sad that i didn't invest in one those amazing chuck close-designed artist series t-shirts for gap last season depicting glass himself (see my friend max padilla had the good sense to do so).

thanks to the lovely jennifer krasinski i discovered this truly great american artist's work this week and not surprisingly, this 64 year old is one of the leading pioneers of black portraiture. his life-sized oil paintings are the stuff that magic is made of. brilliant and inspiring.
